Why we base our recommendations on Amazon ratings and number of reviews

At Roaming Mommy we made the decision to provide product recommendations based on Amazon ratings and number of reviews.

A 5 star rating is simple to understand, but you may be wondering why we consider the number of reviews important.

In qualitative research, many researchers choose 30 as a minimum sample size; which means they will survey at least 30 people in order to get to meaningful conclusions in their studies. Any less than 30 would not draw conclusions that are representative of a certain population.

We have decided to follow the same criteria for our product recommendations.

As an example, if a product has a 5 star rating but it has been reviewed only 1 time, we will not recommend it on our website as we do not consider it has the minimum number of reviews to make the rating reliable. Unless of course we try the product ourselves.

A product that has a high star rating and it’s been reviewed a large number of times has a more reliable score. In addition, any marginal contributions (additional reviews) will have little to non-impact to that product rating.

In all of our product comparative tables we will include the number of times a product has been reviewed and the star rating. We think that it is the best way to help you make the best decision on what products to buy for you and your baby.
