We can easily call the Spectra breast pump gold a new generation breast pump because it is powered by 2 motors (independent from one another) that can pump simultaneously.
With the Spectra gold breast pump, double pumping is taken to the next level. You can adjust speed suction and power for each individual breast, without affecting the other. It is also quiet and it is equipped with 15 expression modes.
No wonder why the Spectra Gold Synergy was awarded the Baby Maternity Magazine TOP CHOICE award in 2021 and 2022. The Synergy showcases an LCD screen with timer control, 5 stages of soft massage settings, 3 levels of illumination for you to choose from, which is yet another impressive feature.
Like the Spectra S1 and S2, the Synergy Gold is an hospital grade pump, enabled with a closed system with backflow protection to prevent contamination of mother’s milk and pump engine, so there you have it.
Setting up the Spectra Synergy Gold
Clean the Spectra Synergy Gold Pump parts
Before setting up your breast pump it is important to wash all the separate parts that will be in contact with breast milk thoroughly. You can use warm soapy water.
Make sure you never neither wash nor sanitize the tube, as it never comes in contact with breast milk.

Assemble Spectra Synergy Gold Breast Pump
1. Attach the membrane to the smaller piece of the backflow protector and seal it firmly for proper suction.
2. Insert the the larger case of the backflow protector over the membrane and snap the pieces together.
3. Grab the flange and attach the valve into it. Make sure you select the right size of flange for you.
4. Push the backflow protector into the flange. The backflow piece should fit the flange perfectly.
5. Screw the baby bottle to the flange. There are 2 flange sizes to choose from (28 or 24mm).
6. Repeat all steps listed for the other side and insert the thin part of the tube into the flanges.
7. The end of the tube needs to be pushed into the front of the Spectra Baby Gold by wiggling them gently.
8. The complete set up looks like this. Plug the adapter into a wall socket and ready to pump!
Getting Started with Spectra Gold
The most comfortable way to express milk from both breasts in simultaneous is to get a hands free pumping bra.
Having free hands will allow you to do something else or make any adjustments to each side of your breasts as you express milk.
Firstly you will need to insert the flange of each side (matching left and right accordingly with each tube) into the bra.
Once you put on your nursing bra, make sure that the nipples are centered in the flange tunnel to avoid any rubbing and to express milk comfortably.
How to use the Spectra Synergy Gold Pump?

Press the on/off button at the bottom center of the Synergy Gold and right away you will see that the lights switch on, showing a wave, which corresponds to the massage mode.
The massage mode will help you with the milk letdown. Once milk letdown has commenced, you may switch the expression mode (showing drops).
Press the waves to start with the massage modes and select L for the left breasts and/ or R for the right breast.
The vacuum light shows the strength of suction. Whenever the massage mode is in use, the vacuum can go up to level 5. You may select a different level for each breast.
Whenever you are in the expression mode, the vacuum power can go up to 10.
Over the on/off button there is the cycle button, which can be used to select the speed of suction. This mode will be the same for both breasts, so it cannot be customized.
Once you finish your pumping session, you can switch off the suction for one of the breasts by pressing the R or L button.
When you finish pumping from both breasts, you can turn the unit off using the power button.
Always remember to wash and sanitize all spectra synergy gold parts that were in touch with your milk (except tubing).

The dual motor technology, though comes at a cost. The Spectra breast pump Synergy Gold is considerably more expensive than the S1 and the S2 plus variants of the brand.
Moms love that it comes with a 3 level of nightlight option to pump in bed and a handle to carry the pump around the house. Another good things about the Gold pump is that it features quite long tubes.
Probably a downside of the Spectra Synergy Gold electric breast pump is that it is not portable, so we would not recommend it for moms that are out and about. Even if you are going to the office, it may be better to consider a portable breast pump like the Spectra S1 plus.
Unlike the S1, it does no have space to hold the spectra synergy gold bottles. A good tip, for after finishing your pumping session is to put the baby bottles in a container to prevent them from falling and spilling your milk.
Overall, the Spectra Synergy Gold is a great pump for mothers who are exclusively pumping or for first time moms in general, looking to optimize their pumping session in order to get some rest faster than when using a single pump.
